John Mark is a fast paced work environment. Our collections are created for the individual month the merchandise will be in stores. We present 3 months at a time at market and have a 4 month time line. We create all samples in house with flat patterns.

I am responsible for presenting designs to the head designer for each collection, making first patterns for my samples & creating 1st tech packs for each style including technical sketches

Additionally, I communicate with vendors to source new fabrics & request samples of past styles in new colorways/ new designs with updates prints from vendors.

Designs

When I first started at John Mark, I would present fabric suggestions by laying them out on the table for the designer. Since being given greater creative responsibility, I have implemented the use of filled CADs to streamline presentations.

Since we make all our samples in-house, clear communication with our sample makers is crucial for construction. Previously, we relied on hand sketches and written instructions, which could be time-consuming. To improve efficiency, I suggested creating tech flats, providing clearer guidance for our sample makers while also preparing us for the tech pack process.

Technical Sketches

Patterns

I create patterns for each sample given for the sample makers to sew in house. Additionally, I created a sloper using measurements of our dress form.
